Don Knotts – 81 (1924 – 2006)

Don Knotts has revolutionized the format of sitcoms by diverting the comedic role from the lead to a supporting character. He has received critical acclaim as Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife in the iconic sitcom, The Andy Griffith Show. Don’s role as the two-piece suit-wearing deputy sheriff made him rise to fame dramatically.

He starred in another sitcom, Three’s Company, as Ralph Furley, entering the show after Susan Somers left. Again, the comic was able to incorporate her punchlines into his script with ease. Nevertheless, every good thing comes to an end, and so did Don’s life. Unfortunately, he passed away from complications associated with lung cancer in 2016.
