Leaving Is Never Easy
The Continental Congress established the Army, which is amongst the oldest military branches in the U.S., in June 1775. The Army sent out large-scale deployments before September 11, 2001, with each division consisting of about 15,000 soldiers.
It all changed when forces were broken down into smaller groupings, including the brigade combat teams (BCTs) backed by brigade support battalions (BSBs). As of 2007, the Army has about 42 BCTs and an estimated 75 BSBs. Saying goodbye proved harder than all the other times TJ had left because this time around, he was leaving for war.
