32,000-Year-Old Plant Lives Again
Wonders never cease in nature because as hard as it is for human, plant, or animal life to survive for hundreds of years, Russian researchers now boast of regenerating some 32,000-year-old seeds that date way back to the Ice Age.
The scientists discovered them on Kolyma River banks, at a spot about 124 feet below the Siberian permafrost. Although refrigeration is known to preserve food for extended periods, reviving plants that have been frozen for thousands of decades is not a joke. The world’s oldest plant can give us a glimpse of our planet’s vegetation in ancient times.
