The Frozen Giant Squid
Most people work hard to get money to afford lavish lifestyles such as sports cars and mansions. Yet for Australian curator, Nick Kirby, spending $100,000 to get a giant squid transported to the Melbourne Aquarium and frozen for display was money very well spent, indeed.
Caught off the coast of New Zealand, the rare sea creature often demonized in myths weighs a whopping 550 pounds and is longer than 22 feet. It’s preserved in an ice block of about four tons so that visitors can revel at the remarkable wonders of nature.
