The Opening Act – Status Quo Set The Tempo
The actual opening act was the Coldstream Guards band, which played the Royal Salute before a short and sweet version of God Save the Queen. But the first band of rock and roll performance was Status Quo. They fittingly opened their set with a rendition of Rockin’ All Over the World.
It was fitting because these concerts were also being broadcast worldwide, to some 150 countries and an estimated 1.9 billion people. This was roughly 40% of the world’s population. They played another two songs in their set: their fan-favorite Caroline and the infectious singalong Don’t Waste My Time.
