Bob Geldof had a dream and did what it took to pull it off. But he and Midge Ure also put themselves through a lot of strain. They had to go through their fair share of disappointment, with certain acts pulling out. One of those was Bruce Springsteen, who was planned in for the U.S. event.
Geldof even changed the date from 6 to 13 July so Springsteen could play. But the invitation was not accepted. Although Geldof admitted he hadn’t slept for weeks in the lead-up to the show, everything went down well.
