Many directors strive to make sure their movie adaptations are as accurate as possible to the original works. However, that could come at a cost, as the Ghost in the Shell producers would find out.

When Scarlett Johansson was cast as the lead actress to play Motoko Kusanagi, many fans were elated as they felt she would fit the part. The move, however, drew sharp criticisms when it was revealed that the filmmakers thought of using CGI to make the actors look more ‘Asian.’ After massive warranted backlash, the film went on as planned without technology’s intended use and performed modestly in the box-office.
