Premature babies face several challenges from birth, and the McCaughey septuplets were sadly not an exception. Another hurdle they faced was when they found out that Nathan and Alexis had cerebral palsy. The condition defines a group of disorders that impact coordination and movement.
The symptoms vary with different people, and severe CP affects the ability to walk. Some might need lifelong care, but others with mild cases of the condition might walk awkwardly but live independently. CP doesn’t become progressively worse, but the symptoms someone experiences can change over time. Both Nathan and Alexis had difficulties walking unaided but developed normally.
