Aww! Did the woodpecker and weasel form an unlikely bond when the bird allowed the other animal to hop on its back for a free ride? It is fascinating how the tiny mammal seemed to cling to the flying organism like a baby.
However, this may not be as touching as we imagined it to be. According to National Geographic, this could have been a result of a failed predatory attack. Shot by Martin Le-May for the BBC, he somehow distracted the weasel when the woodpecker landed. However, because the bird is a forager of ants, it is vulnerable to predators.
