Bill Bradley (Born in 1943)
Not only was Bill Bradley an Olympic Gold-winning basketball player, but he was also a three-time Democratic Senator from New Jersey from 1979 to 1997. He started playing basketball when he was nine years old in his hometown, Crystal City, Missouri. He excelled academically and was considered the top basketball high school player in 1961.
Bradley was offered 75 basketball scholarships but opted to attend Princeton University. After graduating, he joined the National Basketball Association and played for the Newyork Knicks for ten years. In 2000 Bradley was an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic Party’s nomination for president. He lost to Vice President Al Gore, who was a party favorite.
