Rare Children’s Terminal Illness
Jim’s inquiry about Sarah’s husband’s job led to a surprising revelation. They hailed from the sunny shores of Maui, Hawaii, and were returning there soon; it’s there where Trucker’s father worked in the firefighting department. This made the captain curious since Trucker was supposed to be in school in Hawaii.
It was then that Sarah disclosed that her son had been diagnosed with neuroblastoma two years ago. It’s a rare type of cancer that typically afflicts young children under five years old. Although there’s no known cure for the disease, doctors in New York City can manage it, so Trucker frequently went there for treatment.
