A 650-Year-Old Basket
While we are talking about Alaska, let’s take you a glimpse of what else the mighty forests can hold. From giants trees to tiny historic containers or precious stones, you can find almost everything covered under the snow patches. In the early-’00s, the renowned geologist William Manley with his group discovered a birch basket that was probably over 500 years old in the Saint Elias Mountains.
Even after all this time, the artifact was perfectly secured with stitching holes. Manley’s team was searching for items like old clothes or tools to understand when he came across this basket.
