Stay Away From Ancient Bacteria

The tremendous potential threat to the health of humans is actually bacteria. In 2016, a Russian anthrax outbreak was due to a melted reindeer carcass infected by the bacterium many years before. Scientists believe that it thawed during a heatwave unleashing the dangerous pathogen as the remains warmed.

As the newly defrosted bacteria spread, dozens of people needed hospitalization, and 2,000 reindeer were reportedly infected. In fact, the outbreak was so severe that some families required airlifting from the Yamal Peninsula. In hindsight, according to some scientists, this was the outcome of climate change and not the last such incident expected to occur.
