Barbara Knox (Born In 1933) – Coronation Street
Barbara Knox started as a dancer in stage plays until she appeared onscreen for the comedy series “Funny You Should Say That.” In 1964, she guest appeared as Rita Littlewood in the soap opera “Coronation Street.” Her quick appearance made an impact, and she returned as a full-time cast member in 1972.
Surprisingly, her role in the soap opera holds the record as the second-longest member on the show. The character is among the most popular and in-demand characters in any British soap opera. This made Knox the longest-serving television soap opera actress in the world. She was made an MBE during the 2010 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
