Live Aid – A Concert About Saving Lives
The Ethiopian Famine from 1983 to 1985 was one of the most devastating recorded in the world. An estimated 1.2 million people died while 400,000 refugees left the country and 200,000 children were orphaned. Irish musician Bob Geldof wasn’t about to stand by and let this continue.
In 1984, he recorded a fundraising song called Do They Know It’s Christmas? which became the biggest-selling single in UK history at the time and featured major UK artists like Sting, Boy George, Phil Collins, and Bono. Boy George came up with the idea of hosting a benefit concert with some of the biggest bands in rock.
