Even his acting was so compelling that he was named English cinema’s fourth most successful actor. In 1973, he was honored with a knighthood for his contributions to the arts and charity. While in 2020, Steele received the highest civilian honor from the United Kingdom, becoming an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
