After losing his voice because of complications brought on by throat cancer, actor Val Kilmer has sought the help of a company to produce a synthetic version of his vocals through audio deepfake technology. It’s all for the voice-over on Val, his 2021 Amazon Original documentary.

It’s been six years since the Top Gun actor was diagnosed with throat cancer, and all the radiation, chemotherapy, and tracheostomy led to permanent damage on his speaking voice. The 61-year-old is, at least, cancer-free now and was even able to pose for the recent cover of People magazine.
