Fred Harris – 1930
The extraordinary men and women who make it to the lists of influential personalities still with us have something in common- persistence. These people practice their crafts and profession tirelessly. One such individual who pursued causes dear to his heart is Fred Harris; he stood up for indigenous Americans’ welfare in his case.
Going against his time’s tide is not easy, but some men have the grit needed to accomplish goals. Fred Harris helped sign legislation in 1970 that serves to return sacred land to the Taos Pueblo people. In 1976, the public servant returned to academia, completing the circle of dedication to the community for which we know him.
