Sidney Poitier — 1927
Sidney Poitier knew he wanted to become an actor, which is why he joined the North American Negro Theatre, which paved the way for his breakthrough on Blackboard Jungle. Despite having challenges (being a person of color and all), he made sure to reach for the stars.
In fact, his name will be in history books as the first Black male actor to have won an Academy Award. Poitier hasn’t been active for about two decades now, which makes sense as he is 93 years old. Seeing as he lived to see his great-grandchildren and made $25 million out of his career, he’s clearly lived a fulfilled life.
