We all know Tom embodies the archetype of an action hero, but he’s also stepped into the shoes of a real-life savior. In 1997, he was on vacation with his family when he saw a sailboat on fire in the Mediterranean Sea. He immediately sent his yacht’s lifeboat to rescue the people aboard, including a French family with two young children.
The following year, he helped chase down robbers who stole nearly $110K of jewelry during a mugging in London. Tom also once stopped to help a woman named Heloisa Vinhas, a 23-year-old aspiring actress, after she was in a hit-and-run accident, and he later paid all her hospital bills.
