Lloyd Price — 1933
After the success of his hit single “Personality,” Lloyd Price was dubbed “Mr. Personality,” although he began his musical journey as a choir boy at his local church. When “Lawdy Miss Clawdy” was released, it became an instant success and gained him a large following.
However, in 1954, he decided to enlist and was sent to Korea as a result. A new R&B landscape had emerged when he returned, and he was faced with more competition than ever before. He battled for a long time to get his music out there, but he contributed to the development of the New Orleans Beat and went on to record several significant songs.
