Have Pity, Sir!
Poor bird! Luckily, this was just a statue of Ilmarinen, a god also known as the Eternal Hammerer. Coming from Finnish mythology, this blacksmith is believed to have the ability to do anything, specifically with gold, brass, silver, iron, and copper, but unfortunately, he wasn’t lucky with love.
This is the statue of the god found at the Old Student House in Helsinki. The character is so popular in Finland that it inspired the metal band Amorphis to conceptualize their 2009 album “Skyforger” around the story. Then, the group Turisas also released the song “Cursed Be Iron” about the blacksmith.
