Mitch McConnell & Elaine Chao – Together Since 1993

Mitch McConnell is currently serving as the Senate Minority Leader, and he took up the post in January 2021. McConnell has a strong support system at home through his wife, Elaine Chao. Stuart Bloch, their mutual friend, played the matchmaker and introduced the two to each other in the early ’90s.

Bloch set up a candlelit dinner for Chao and McConnell, and according to what Bloch told the New York Times, sparks flew between them right away. They walked down the aisle on February 6, 1993, right before Chao’s 40th birthday and a week-long Senate recess. McConnell has three children from his first marriage to Sherrill Redmon.
