Survival of the Fattest: When Wild Boars Outrun Lions
It’s a dog-eat-dog world in predator-prey relationships. Or, in this case, a lion-eat-boar world. This game-cam snapshot perfectly captures the stark reality that exists in the animal kingdom. While the friends-in-the-movie trope may seem heartwarming, the reality is that lions have an innate instinct to hunt and kill their prey.
But don’t count Pumba out just yet. Wild boars may seem portly and slow, but they can actually outrun lions with speeds of up to 30 miles per hour! They can also jump over fences that are a couple of feet high, according to Texas A&M University’s Agrilife Extension. Talk about a chubby animal’s incredible survival skills!
