In 2021, a Baltimore school dedicated its new media center to the late Elijah Cummings. A politician and civil rights advocate, Cummings was one of Baltimore’s most-beloved high-profile figures up until the day of his passing, in October 2019. A few months before, his residence in the city made headlines, albeit not for the best reasons.
In the summer of 2019, Cummings was reportedly forced to “scare away” an intruder who tried to rob his Baltimore home. The whole situation was politicized at the time because the event took place just hours before Cummings published a controversial anti-Trump tweet.
