Aleksandr Karelin (Born in 1967)
Aleksandr Karelin is a retired athlete and Russian politician. He competed in Greco-Roman wrestling between 1987 and 2000. Karelin is known by the nicknames “Russian Bear,” “The Experiment,” and “Russian King Kong.” He is considered one of the greatest Greco-Roman wrestlers of all time.
He won a gold medal at three consecutive Olympic games and a silver in the next Olympic tournaments. He has won a record 887 wins and has only suffered two losses in his entire career. After retiring from wrestling, he successfully ran for office in 1999 and was elected a deputy of the State Duma that year.
