Luka Modrić, Professional Footballer, $75 million

Having a childhood during the highlight of the independence war in Croatia, Luka Modrić found things tough for himself. The poverty his parents faced caused them to send five-year-old Modrić off to shepherd goats with his grandparents. But even with the hellish situation in Croatia, Modrić kept the passion for football and played on through his childhood.

He is now a professional Croatian footballer and plays for the top Spanish team, Real Madrid. The midfielder is the captain of the Croatian national team and is worth about $75 million in 2021.
