Kristy McNichol became famous for her Emmy Award-winning portrayal of Buddy Lawrence in the ’70s “Family” series. She also acted as Barbara Weston in “Empty Nest” between 1988 and 1995. In 2001, she chose to leave everything in Hollywood behind to focus on her health.

In 2012, McNichol put an end to years of speculation by revealing that she’s a lesbian living with her partner Martie Allen since the early ’90s. As People reported, she made the statement hoping that her openness would help young people bullied because of their personal orientation.
