Claire Bloom started her journey on the London stage, having played parts in Shakespeare’s masterpieces, “Hamlet” and “Romeo and Juliet.” In 1952, she was discovered by Hollywood star Charlie Chaplin. He invited her to co-star alongside him in “Limelight,” and her career skyrocketed.
Her most successful leading projects are “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “A Doll’s House,” and “Long Day’s Journey into Night.” Bloom is also well-known for portraying Queen Mary in “The King’s Speech.” In 2013, she was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire during the Birthday Honours for services to drama. In 2021, Bloom was among the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
