The Elders – Elton John Brings His Classics
There was a strategy behind getting some of the older performers onto the bill. Organisers Bob Geldof and Midge Ure hoped that having older performers on the bill would make the government more responsive to the message they wanted to send.
Sir Elton John was one of those older artists, but he did a lot more than make up numbers and send a message. He did what he does and electrified the 72,000 Wembley crowd with a powerful performance. His set included Rocket Man, Bernie, and the Jets and a duet with George Michael on Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.
