Sadaharu Oh (Born in 1940)
Sadaharu Oh, also known as Wang Chen-Chih, is a Japanese-born former baseball player and manager in Japan. Oh holds the world’s lifetime home run record, having hit 868 home runs during his professional career. He is among the most respected Japanese professional athletes.
A left-handed hitter and batter, he adopted a distinctive Flamingo leg kick on the pitch and went on to dominate baseball in Japan in the 80s. In 1994, he was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in Tokyo. He also became the first recipient of the People’s Honour Award. He played his entire professional career with the Giants and was their manager from 1984 to 1988.
